Outstanding Assistant Technician Award
I. Intent
a. Awarded annually to a branch member who is AALAS certified at the Laboratory Animal
Technician Level (LAT), in recognition of accomplishment and contribution to the promotion
of laboratory animal care, AALAS, and to other care professionals.
b. The award will consist of a plaque presented at the Michigan Branch AALAS annual banquet,
and a $100.00 honorarium.
II. Eligibility
a. The nominee must be a Michigan Branch AALAS Member (Non members may be nominated-
they will receive a one year membership should they win).
b. The nominee must be a Laboratory Animal Technician.
III. Criteria
a. Day-to-day job performance, contributing to the smooth operation of the unit. (20 Points)
b. Contribution to AALAS, especially at the branch level. (20 Points)
c. Benefits to the facility of employment. (10 Points)
d. Participation in additional programs, such as public service, outside AALAS. (10 Points)
IV. Nomination packet format
a. Nomination form completed supporting how the nominee fits the criteria listed above.
(20 Points)
b. One letter of endorsement, preferably from the nominee’s supervisor; endorsement letter
should be limited to two typed pages, double spaced. (10 Points)
c. Proof of AALAS certification, a copy of the certificate is acceptable. (10 Points)
V. Nomination Packet Submission & Deadline
a. The Michigan Branch AALAS Technician Affairs Committee (TAC) Chair will set the deadline for
submissions annually.
b. The TAC Chair may choose to extend the deadline to increase participation in the awards
programs.
c. Nomination packets must be mailed directly to the TAC Chair.


Technologist Award
I. Intent
a. Awarded annually to a branch member who is AALAS certified at the Laboratory Animal
Technologist Level (LATG), in recognition of accomplishment and contribution to the promotion
of laboratory animal care, AALAS, and to other care professionals.
b. The award will consist of a plaque presented at the Michigan Branch AALAS annual banquet
and a $200.00 honorarium.
II. Eligibility
a. The nominee must be a Michigan Branch AALAS Member (Non members may be nominated-
they will receive a one year membership should they win).
b. The nominee must be a Laboratory Animal Technologist.
III. Criteria
a. Day-to-day job performance, contributing to the smooth operation of the unit. (20 Points)

Vendor Award
I. Intent
a. Awarded annually to representatives for exceptional service. Its purpose is to acknowledge
the support given to laboratory animal science.
b. The award will consist of a plaque presented at the Michigan Branch AALAS annual banquet
and a 1-year business card advertisement in newsletter.
II. Eligibility
a. Any laboratory animal vendor.
III. Criteria
a. Description of position held. (15 Points)
b. Description of support or service provided to laboratory animal professionals. (20 points)
c. List activities that promote AALAS at multiple levels. (15 Points)
IV. Nomination packet format
a. Nomination form completed supporting how the nominee fits the criteria listed above.
(25 Points)
b. A minimum of one letter of endorsement; letters should be limited to two typed pages,
double-spaced. (25 Points)
V. Nomination Packet Submission & Deadline
a. The Michigan Branch AALAS Technician Affairs Committee (TAC) Chair will set the deadline for
submissions annually.

Robert A. Watkins Award
I. Intent
a. Awarded annually to branch members. Its purpose is to promote the sharing of skills and
knowledge with fellow colleagues.
b. The award will consist of a plaque presented at the Michigan Branch AALAS annual banquet
and a $100.00 honorarium.
II. Eligibility
a. The nominee must be a Michigan Branch AALAS Member (Non members may be nominated-
they will receive a one-year membership should they win). The nominee should have significant
dedication to sharing skills and knowledge or promoting the sharing of skills and knowledge with
fellow colleagues.
b. If no nominee is deemed sufficiently qualified by the judges, no award will be given.
III. Criteria
a. Benefit to nominee’s institution or peers as a result of their dedication to share skills and
knowledge. (20 Points)
b. Contribution to AALAS at multiple levels. (15 points)
c. Participation in outside activities, such as public service, education programs, etc. (15 Points)
IV. Nomination packet format
a. Nomination form completed supporting how the nominee fits the criteria listed above.
(25 Points)
b. One letter of endorsement from the nominee’s supervisor and one additional support letter
required; endorsement letters should be limited to two typed pages, double spaced.
(25 Points)
